Nuggets to Neutralize the the Fear NOW!

Click on Mind Map to Enlarge

This Mind Map was developed for a Presentation to be delivered to an Open House at a Toastmaster Club.

Read it by starting at 12:00 and going clockwise.

“See” how much easier it is to look at an icon vs. black and white text.  I “know my stuff” so I just need a reminder of each nugget.

I won’t go thru the entire presentation, but here are a few “Nuggets.”

1.  You are not alone! 75% of the population suffers from glossophobia, the fear of public speaking.  It is a word, not a disease, and it can be controlled!

2a.  You really never want to get rid of the butterflies in your stomach. A little nervous energy is good.  You want those butterflies to fly in formation!

2b. Never, Never, Never tell the audience you are nervous.  They will be looking for it and it could become a self-fulling prophecy.

3a. Arrive early at the event to Meet & Greet people who will be in the audience.  You will be amazed at how much easier it is to present to people you’ve already met.

3b. Name Tags make the Meet & Greet much easier.  They close the gap between people by reaching out and pulling you in.

This recently happened when Mind Mapping with a client on his new Financial Services business.

We started with a Mind Map of the four main products he offers his clients.  The next step was to map each of those products.  As we added graphics to the products, more and more things my client could offer came to mind.  The map grew and grew and we linked it to additional Mind Maps for more clarity.

We wound up with four additional maps linked to the original.

He’ll use these maps as templates in his work.

Bottom Line: He’ll do a better job for clients by visually showing ideas and solutions to their individual  and family needs.

Master Mind Mapper – Fred Miller

Work with Me . . .

Your Challenges and Opportunities!

Many years ago, at an International Toastmasters Convention, I was introduced to Mind Mapping.

Since no good speaker should be just a ‘talking head’, I decided to attend a training seminar about ‘Speaking without Notes’.

The presenter was a high school principal who talk us about a visual technique called ‘Pegging’.  It involved memorizing 20 ‘Pegs’ and attaching key words of your speach to those pegs with ‘super mental crazy glue’.

During the Question and Answer Session, someone asked the principal, “How do you write your speeches?”mmmmcc

“Mind Maps,” was the reply.  When he said it, he pushed a button on the projector and an image appeared that had everything radiating from the center.

I thought, “That looks pretty cool.”

Then the presenter said, “I develop, practice and deliver all my talks with Mind Maps.”

I then said to myself, “Wow.  That seems super cool.”

Finally, he added, “Last week I gave three speeches in one day; All different and all developed, practiced and delivered with Mind Maps.”

That did it for me!  I knew I had to find out more about this tool.

I immediately bought Tony Buzan’s book, ‘The Mind Map Book.’  I devoured it, and was hooked.

I even enrolled in an art class to see if I could draw Mind Maps.  After two classes, I realized I had no talent in this area and dropped out.

Luckily, through my teacher, wife, I found Inspiration brand software, and was able to develop, edit, prioritize and revise Mind Maps with ease.

Ever since, I’ve been studying and exploring new uses for it and how to get maximum results.

Just as a Swiss Army Knife is a multi-purpose tool, Mind Mapping can be used to develop ideas and solutions to everyday tasks, challenges and opportunities – personal and business.

  • Strategic Planning
  • Problem Solving
  • Decision Making
  • Other Brain Related Activities

I use Mind Mapping for everything from Daily To-do Lists to Planning Trips to Writing and Delivering Speeches.

My only regret –
I didn’t discover it sooner!

Discover New Opportunities.
Manage and Eliminate Threats.

SWOT Analysis is a powerful technique for understanding your Strengths and Weaknesses, and for looking at the Opportunities and Threats you face.

SWOT

I use a Mind Mapping to achieve the maximum results.

What makes SWOT particularly powerful is that, with a little thought, it can help you uncover opportunities that you are well placed to exploit. And by understanding the weaknesses of your business, you can manage and eliminate threats that would otherwise catch you unawares.

More than this, by looking at yourself and your competitors using the SWOT framework, you can start to craft a strategy that helps you distinguish yourself from your competitors, so that you can compete successfully in your market.

Mind Mapping in the Cloud

webspiration

My Mind Mapping software of choice has always been Inspiration.

It’s the product I started with, and while I’ve looked at others, this one fits my needs extremely well.

They now have upgraded their ‘cloud’ program, webspiration.

One of the really cool things this offers is the ability to collaborate on line.  This is HUGE!

Consultants
If you’re a consultant, with on-going client projects, Mind Mapping can be a great addition to your tool box.

It is one of the best ways to literally illustrate the present situation, and all options, to the client.

Each option, and everything associated with it in terms of: human capital, time, materials, money, etc. and possible outcomes, can easily be explored.

Since everything is displayed on one screen (or sheet of paper), missing important ideas and solutions is less likely.

Because the only constant is change, the client mind map can, and should be, regularly revisited.

New market conditions, product developments, competitive activities, personnel changes, and everything else that might necessitate ‘adjusting the rudder’ can be added to the original mind map.

If the consultant isn’t familiar with mind mapping and available software, a good option would to bring in someone trained, experienced and proficient with mind mapping theory and current technology.
